Family Photos
The real characters described in my novels are captured in the family photos displayed below. These photos take us on a journey from our humble abode at Boosbeck Railway Station during the 1960s and 1970s, to the captivating landscapes of Antarctica and Italy during the tumultuous Second World War. Both “The Devil can be kind to some people” and “Girl from Posolskoe” make reference to these remarkable places.
My work has been a painstaking forty-year endeavour to gather and meticulously research all the information presented in these two literary works. Regrettably, I have received minimal assistance, if any, from the authorities and institutions in the UK, where this information should rightfully be accessible to the public. This realization has shed light on the limitations of researching one’s ancestors through public records. It appears that only information deemed suitable by the government is made available, and any details that may later prove embarrassing to the authorities are swiftly erased from public records, as well as from personal archives and digital devices.
Do not loose heart! Other sources of information will help you, particularly your older relatives. And if there is then a conflict between what your relatives tell you and what is in “official” records, always believe your relatives!

Documents from JRE’s Army file that prove he and my mother were living at Royal Holloway College Main Lodge from 1940. So Tommy was the security man at RHC much earlier than I thought. Tommy was the security man in the Main Lodge from (at the latest) 1940 to 1964.
